Ehsan Danish (1914 - 1982) was one of the most notable Urdu poet, prose writer, linguist, lexicographer and an eminent scholar of 20th century. He was a self-made man who struggled all his life as a laborer yet excelled to the heights of language, literature, arts and fine arts due to his passion, steadfastness and deep-rooted love for book reading.
Jahan-e-Danish is his landmark award winning autobiography in two volumes that artistically portrays his unbelievable yet realistic journey from a laborer to a laureate. The description is literary, emotional yet full of artistic craftsmanship and loftiness of Urdu diction.
Danish Publishing House (Maktaba-e-Danish) was eventually the place of livelihood which Ehsan Danish established in Aibak Road, New Anarkali Lahore, Pakistan. He published hundreds of books which served to enkindle the minds of thousands of students, teachers, scholars, men of letters and the lovers of Urdu language & literature in India and Pakistan.
India & Pakistan were the two countries where Ehsan danish did several jobs ranging from farmer, mason, calligrapher, inkman, cleaner, gardener and the like. Born in India as Ehsan ul Haq, renamed as Ehsan Bin Danish he was finally known in literary circles across India and Pakistan as Ehsan Danish.
