Urdu poet and writer Ehsan Danish was one of the most popular literary and public figure of Pakistan and India. Born in India in 1914, Ehsan Danish belonged to a noble family. Due to abject poverty, he hardly completed his formal education till grade 4 and started jobs as a laborer, mason, farmer etc. Ehsan Danish later migrated to Pakistan to earn his livelihood and finally settled in Lahore as a book publisher. He wrote over 100 books on poetry, prose, linguistics, lexicography and prosody. He was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan in recognition of his splendid services to Urdu language & literature. Ehsan Danish received love, recognition and huge applause both in Pakistan and India due to his versatile language, powerful lyrical tone and as a public literary figure. He passed away in 1982 and was laid to rest in Miyani Sahab Cemetery, Lahore.
